MarketingSherpa has published a case study where Motley Fool went from a double opt-in to a single opt-in approach and increased their paying subscribers by 45%. Don't Use Punctuation in E-Mail MessagesSubmitted by Jim on August 10, 2006 - 9:46am.
Not all punctuation mind you, but Tom Kulzer of AWeber recommends marketers stop using punctuation within words (such as "f.ree" and "pro^fits" as a way to get around spam filters. Kulzer says this actually develops a "spammer" reputation in the eyes of not only your readers, but also with their ISPs, since these are the same techniques that actual spammers use in attempts to circumvent filter mechanisms.
