On November 9th, Marty M. Dell computer has had enough of domain name typo squatters and has decided to take legal action against them. The squatters have been redirecting the misspelled domain names to Dell's site using affiliate links.

"Dell is suing these affiliates for ownership of the domain names, legal fees, and commissions paid", says Peter Figueredo of ReveNews. Peter continues, "Will LinkShare be next since they too earn commissions on this affiliate activity?"

Jim Kukral of ReveNews brings his readers' attention to a U.S. Federal Trade Commission ruling that word-of-mouth marketers must disclose compensated recommendations. Adam Viener over at ReveNews talks about the benefits of product demonstration videos. Viener points out that affiliate marketers can make use of the idea to sell more affiliate products. Affiliates can use online videos to create product demonstrations that help prospective customers to make the decision to buy. Viener also recommends that affiliate managers should begin creating videos for their affiliates, "Advertisers who have products that can [be] easily demonstrated and "sold" by video should start making videos available to their affiliate partners!"

As reported earlier, the affiliate marketing community is in an uproar about Google Checkout. Affiliates of merchants who use Google Checkout are not being credited with sales from referred customers.

It appears the behavior is not intentional or malicious on Google's part. In responding to this post on Threadwatch, Google guru Matt Cutts says, "Linda, as soon as I heard people saying that there were tracking issues, I escalated it to the Google Checkout folks. I know they're looking to see if there's anything they can do pretty quickly to help on this issue."

Affiliate Summit founder Shawn Collins was watching a tutorial by Tim Carter on Google Video. At the 1-minute mark, the tutorial faded out and a 15-second ad took its place. After the ad, the tutorial resumed. Collins points out the upside potential for affiliate marketers, should this form of advertising be generally available. On Thursday, December 7th, Marty M. Fahncke will host a teleseminar with Kellie Stevens from AffiliateFairPlay.com and Wil Reynolds from SEER Interactive. Lynn Terry explores the benefits of using WordPress for an affiliate site, and lists 7 advantages that using WordPress for these types of sites would give. "The only major drawback that I can see is comment spam," says Terry "though there are plenty of solutions to explore for that I am sure.
